Meet The Coaches at NCC

Get to know the coaches at NCC

At North Cascades Crew our coaches are also members who are passionate about the sport of rowing and passing on their knowledge. All of our coaches are US Rowing Level I or II certified and will provide guided practices, skill improvement, and oversee safety while on the water.

She loves helping people row well, and improve their fitness, while having fun in a more relaxed, recreational environment.

Katherine Johann: Competitive Coach

Katherine has been rowing for close to 15 years getting her start at WSU. She has won many medals and ribbons while sculling, sweep rowing and on the ergometer. Her passion is seeking the balance between technique and strength to increase the speed of the boat down the race course. She has currently completed the USRowing Certificate Level One Coaching Program and will be mentoring with Rio Salado Rowing Club in Arizona. There she will also take the Advanced Sculling and Racing Camps in February and March of 2022.

She has been a Licensed Massage Therapist for over 30 years, spending most of that time running her own business. The main emphasis in her work is posture, motion and strengthening.

He started competing in the Spring of 2002 and hasn’t stopped competing since.   He has attended every US Rowing Masters Regional Championship since 2003 and has competed in numerous US Rowing Masters National Championships and Canadian Masters Championships.

Stacey Wood: Assistant Coach Masters

Stacey started rowing when she moved to the area in 2014. Although the first few years of participation were on and off, today it’s a primary part of life. Having completed US Rowing’s level one online, Stacey enjoys getting people in boats by coaching NCCs Learn to Row twice a year and helping out where needed with NCC’s juniors program.

Kat Runyon: Assistant Coach Juniors

Kat has been rowing for 15 years, and has coached the NCC Junior Crew since 2018. She has taken the US Rowing Level 2 Coaching certification course, and loves seeing NCC’s young rowers develop skills and strength
